The year 2020 has truly been quite a difficult year for everyone. Despite these troubles, it has been amazing to see that the Phu Quoc Ridgeback Association has made so many exciting changes within the last month and pushed forward in support for the breed. So far, the PQRA has made significant progress towards breed recognition by an official breed registry and has begun to accept new members —two major steps for the club and for the Vietnamese Phu Quoc Ridgeback breed. With the new year, the PQRA hopes to continue looking to push the breed further.
What have we accomplished this year?
The PQRA has made massive changes this year. Previously the Vietnamese Phu Quoc Ridgeback Club of America (VPQRCA), we have expanded to become an international organization under the the name of the Phu Quoc Ridgeback Assocation (PQRA) and we have a new logo to go with this change. We have revamped our Constitution and Bylaws and made some additions to our Code of Ethics. The PQRA has pushed breed proposals to breed registries including the American Rare Breed Association (ARBA) and the United Kennel Club (UKC). And, of course, we have opened to new members and have an event planned for the Phu Quoc Ridgeback community. Yet with all of these done, we still have so many more things ahead of us.
What is next for the PQRA?
The PQRA has so much more planned for the breed and for the organization. We hope to accomplish so much more in this upcoming year and beyond.
Some important goals we have for the Phu Quoc Ridgeback Association include plans to:
Work towards breed recognition for larger kennel clubs including the AKC, UKC and FCI
Host events (virtual or otherwise) for the Phu Quoc Ridgeback community to participate in with their dogs
Provide more information to the public through articles and outreach to promote and educate people about the breed
Compile and offer a list of ethical, reputable breeders that align with our Code of Ethics to help those who may be seeking a Phu Quoc Ridgeback dog
Complete an accessible database of registered dogs visible to PQRA members
Create a newsletter available to PQRA members
Continue building up a community of dedicated and educated Phu Quoc Ridgeback owners and enthusiasts
We really want to thank everyone in the Phu Quoc Ridgeback community and others who support our endeavors to promote this special breed. Ultimately, our goals are to give back to the community and to the dogs, and we hope that our efforts will aid in bringing attention to the breed in order to protect and preserve this precious treasure of Vietnam.
