Phu Quoc Ridgeback Breeders
Part of the mission of the Phu Quoc Ridgeback Association is to preserve the breed, and that includes ensuring that the breed endures in terms of temperament and health. The breeders that are members of the PQRA agree to do their utmost for the breed according to the Code of Ethics. Breeders recommended by the PQRA are expected to properly health test their dogs to prevent health issues in their puppies as much as possible. As true stewards of the breed, their long term health and genetic diversity is just as important to us as retaining their true temperament and type.
Minimum health tests and checks recommended for the breed include:
-
Disease Panel (Genetic testing through Embark, PawPrint, Wisdom Panel, VGL, etc.)
-
Hips (OFA 24 months+ or PennHIP 16+ weeks)
-
Patellas (12 months+)
Additional health tests recommended include:
-
Thyroid (OFA)
-
Cardiac (OFA)
-
Eyes (OFA, CAER examination valid for 12 months)
